| | Kim has been practicing art for more years then she can remember.... She is still 'practicing'!
She is an adventurous, original, passionate and at times a provocative artist.
Some of her more familiar works locally are the huge face of Papatuanuku, which stares out from the cliffs above Lochmara Lodge, and the smaller, more conventional comemorative stone carving which sits outside the local Picton RSA clubrooms .
She has taken part in many exhibitions and frequents stone carving symposiums when ever she can, selling her art throughout New Zealand and at times to overseas collectors.
She considers herself a self-taught artist, though this doesn't belittle the couple of years academic training she has up her sleeve.
Her art is influenced by and made from the environment about her. Influenced by the humam effect upon this and her own feminine-spiritual point of veiw. Female forms and bird people thrive in her work symbolising the fall or flight of humanity, especialy the feminine earthly qaulities.
She paints,sculpts,and does contemporary weaving (having been taught from traditional Maori techniques.)and loves to mix it all up together.
She is an environmental artist and her concerns shine through her art.
A % of all her art sales are donated towards Eco artists,( a group which she is activly involved with ) seeing money go towards wildlife recovery projects throughout NZ.(She is the art co-ordintor at Lochmara lodge wildlife recovery and art centre as well as one of the participating artists.)
She considers herself a simple woman- Though not necessarily easily understood.
For her the only real success in her art, comes when the observer really looks at her work. Engages with it, feels it and realises it. Becoming 'More In Themselves' by the process of doing so .
She prefers working intuiatively and loosely
( unleashed)... Though, will gladly do commisions, if they have the right feel for her...Which they often do,especialy when someone already loves her style .
In 1999 she won telecom art award (Marlborough) .
